The mighty acorn

This unassuming acorn has fallen to the ground.

It makes sense, since our area is named after oak trees.
We have many of them, including this magnificent tree gracing our front yard...

When I look up into its branches, I am so thankful to have a beautiful tree like this!

Except... maybe this time of year.... all those leaves will fall... each and every one of them! Try to count these leaves (and those of the other oak trees on our yard...) the number is staggering! HOWEVER, the number of acorns falling from our oaks this year is also quite abundant. The noise of them falling onto the house is surprising!

The old timers, so they say, would remark in a year that produced an abundance of acorns that a harsh winter would follow. If that is the case...

we might want to book a winter vacation... or tune up the snowblower....

(and, just so you know, this covering of acorns has been swept time and time again already.. they just keep coming!)

The oaks in our yard are dropping acorns as well. I don't remember them ever being so abundant before!

Yep...we are in trouble! One almost twists an ankle stepping on top of them when you walk out the house! It is the most I have seen in a long time! So do you have something one can bake with acorns?? :)

We looked into acorn pie recipes; they all call for pecans! Isn't that a riot? What does it tell you about acorn pie... skip it, go right to pecans.

Oh no! If that's what all those acorns mean you might be in trouble!
