Growing fast

Here is Sean Patrick in the playgym that I purchased almost 5 years ago ... I didn't realize how many babies would be enjoying it! Isn't Sean filling out?

I can't believe how big Preston is now! Here are the two brothers together... before we know it they will be close in size. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Oh goodness, isn't this too cute? Joe Cool Preston.

Good time!

Good food.....

Good friends.... (we had a contest for homecoming king & queen, thus the crowns...)

Good games!! Wow, was that fun!

Getting ready for the game

Here we are getting ready for the big game! Every year we enjoyed the SuperBowl with our Sunday evening Bible study friends. Last year Wally rigged up "stadium seating" in the family room, if you remember. This year we had to do something else... so we purchased a new TV that temporarily is in the living room (only for today) and Wally built these cute little half-circle tables for the dining room level seating (only for today). We will have a contest to see who gets to sit in the two leather chairs (5o yard line seating). There will be new winners each quarter.

Wally is trying out the good seats.

Now, let's just hope it's a good game. Or at least that the commercials are funny!

My handyman/honeyman

Oh Honey, said I, in my sweetest voice.... would it be easy... not too hard... to take out our sink in the powder room and replace it. You know, take it out, pop in a new one? Oh, no, not too hard, said he. Well, after the purchase of a new sink, a new formica top, a new design and a new faucet... here we are! Just in time for our company tonight and our company tomorrow!
Isn't he a honeyman/handyman?

Another little change

Can you spot the change?

Relaxing together

Following the baptism, we gathered together at Daniel & Meghan's for a nice relaxing time. Meghan had the island all set up ready for us to enjoy some delicious homemade soups, great breads from Falls Bakery (the best!), a yummy salad ... and wait until you see our fun dessert...

I took this picture especially for Robyn and Marlane! Meghan labels things just like we do! Our kind of hostess!

Meghan's cousin Jenilee brought her new chocolate fountain! Oh wow, was that ever fun - and delicious. I had no idea how much fun a personal chocolate fountain could be. I couldn't decide what I liked the best - banana pieces in chocolate or pretzels in chocolate. So I had to keep trying both... again and again....

This is a favorite activity for Berge men. A good thinking game. Have you tried Blokus?

Baptism day

Today precious Sean Patrick was brought to the Lord in baptism, surrounded by many family members who love him!

Sean Patrick's sponsors are his Great Uncle and Aunt and their family. Lots of caring loved ones to nurture and pray for him.

A special day for this family of 5.

One good-looking set of proud grandparents.

And the other set of proud grandparents too!

One very happy baby - happy to get that dress off, maybe? (It was the same dress his daddy wore, so that made it special. Thanks, Daniel, for letting him wear it!)

A big change

So, here we have the unveiling of all of Wally's hard work. A beautiful hearth, a nice hard-wood floor and a new rug.

So, what do you think?

Another project update

A couple people have been asking how the floor/kitchen-family room project is coming.. here are the latest pictures. Our kitchen is once again fully functioning. However....
....the family room view hasn't changed much, has it?

A few cozy grandparent moments...

I think my favorite pastime with my grandchildren would be reading to them. I am thrilled that they all seem to love books too! (who is that in the back checking out the book too???)

And perhaps Wally's favorite pastime with his grandchildren would be sharing football? Here he is with Josiah, who seems to know his focus is to be on the tv and the game! Not bad for 4 months!

I know, I know...

I know, I know, half of this blog is grandchildren.... and because 3 of the 7 live in Fergus, they get on here a lot... but when you get such cute pictures, what's a person to do? I got a big laugh out of Preston last night when he looked at my camera and made this funny face. Too cute.

And here's a look that I can't resist... those big adorable eyes....

Minus WHAT?

Can you see this? If you need to, you can click on the picture to enlarge it to be sure... notice that there is a little "dash" before the number 19.9 which means it is 19.9 BELOW zero this morning. (yes, that is without the windchill....)

So we have a nice cozy fire going in the "river room" - along with a warm cup of coffee.

I love winter. Really.

One month old

Here is our sweet little Sean Patrick, one month old today. He came to the YMCA for his morning walk. In fact, he's been walking around the track in the Y for many many months.

Sister and brother also joined us for a walk around the track for a few minutes. This view was priceless and I'm so glad I had my camera close by to snap this picture. The two of them walked around the track like this for almost 3 whole turns. Adorable.

One step closer..

Each step, small though it may seem, brings us closer to completion. After some electrical and plumbing details, Wally could set some cabinets back into place. Just thought, for those of you interested in the project, I'd post today's picture. Now you can see how the floor will appear in relationship to the cabinets. Of course, the center island has to be set in place, which will cover some of the floor you now see.

The Birthday girl

Happy Birthday today to our oldest grandchild! 5 years old!
We love you very much!

Project update

Here is a quick update; though it is quite messy. You can see the new floor; it's hickory. I am anxious now to get the kitchen cabinets re-installed and the furniture back in place. It needs a real good cleaning too! Lots of dust.

Since the kitchen angles off the family room, the kitchen floor is laid on that angle. I wonder how it will look with the island and cabinets back in place.

Kitchen project

Oh my! A happy messy problem - Wally is installing a nice new wood floor in the kitchen and family room.... but in the meantime, no cooking in this kitchen! What you see here is the sub-floor... I will post pictures of the real floor soon.

All the lower kitchen cabinets were removed so that the wood floor could be installed properly.

Here's a view into the family room. Right now most of the new floor is laid, the kitchen is still all in disarray and we have been eating out quite a bit! It's not that bad! As long as I can still have my morning coffee, I'm good.

Happy Birthday John Tobias

The greatest joy and wonder of my life was the gift of you, John, born early on my father's birthday - if I could plan the scenario, it was to have a son on January 7th. I was due the end of January and it still astounds me that you arrived on January 7th. You have always been a gift, and what a special blessing that you could be named after your grandfathers.
May God richly bless you today, John!

My father, John, for whom you were named.
His father was also John, as well as my oldest brother, John.

Dad's father, Tobias, who was a godly man. His name is a honor name to have!

Christmas capes...

Happy New Year! We combined Christmas and New Year's together this weekend as we celebrated Christmas this past weekend with our adult children and our 7 grandchildren. One of the big hits for the grandchildren were little capes that I made (similar to ones I made years ago for our sons) - so I decided, even though the toddlers and babies were a bit too small for the capes, I should go ahead and make theirs as well. Each cape had the initial of the grandchildren for whom it was made. I lined them up on the couch to document them. They were an instant hit! We had little superhero's running around with their capes flying...!!

A closer view of the "boys" cape and the "girls" cape.

Oh my, who's this cape for? We didn't know what initial to put on this little cape...

It was 7 in '07........ but it will be 8 in '08!
